Treatment

Intense pulsed light

Intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment is a non-invasive procedure that uses light energy to improve the appearance of various skin conditions, including sun damage, rosacea, and age spots. While it is a relatively safe and effective treatment, there are potential side effects associated with the procedure. The following are some of the common side effects that patients may experience after undergoing IPL treatment:

  1. Redness: The skin may appear red and swollen after the procedure, which is a normal reaction and typically subsides within a few hours.
  2. Itching: Some patients may experience itching, which can be relieved by using a cold compress or applying a mild lotion.
  3. Peeling or flaking: The treated skin may peel or flake off after a few days, which is a sign of the skin renewing itself.
  4. Dryness: Some patients may experience dryness and flakiness of the skin.
  5. Pigmentation changes: In some cases, the treated area may become darker or lighter in color, which is more common in patients with darker skin tones.
  6. Bruising: In rare cases, some patients may experience bruising, which typically resolves on its own within a few days.
  7. Infection: Although extremely rare, there is a risk of reactivation of cold sores. Please let your doctor know if you have a history of cold sores.

It is essential to discuss the potential side effects with your healthcare provider before undergoing IPL treatment to determine if it is the right treatment option for you. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
