Fillers
Hyaluronic acid fillers are a popular cosmetic treatment used to improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Here is a patient guide to hyaluronic acid fillers:
What are hyaluronic acid fillers?
Hyaluronic acid fillers are injectable treatments made from a gel-like substance that is naturally found in the body. The gel is made of hyaluronic acid, which is a sugar molecule that helps to maintain the skin’s hydration and elasticity.
What areas can be treated with hyaluronic acid fillers?
Hyaluronic acid fillers can be used to improve the appearance of a variety of areas on the face, including the lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds (the lines that run from the nose to the mouth), marionette lines (the lines that run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin), and the temples.
What are the benefits of hyaluronic acid fillers?
Hyaluronic acid fillers can provide a variety of benefits, including:
- Reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
- Adding volume and contour to the face
- Enhancing the fullness and shape of the lips
- Improving the appearance of scars
- Providing a more youthful and refreshed look
Before the procedure
Before the procedure, we will do a consultation to discuss your goals for the treatment and ensure that you are a good candidate for fillers. You should also disclose any medical conditions, allergies, or medications you are taking to your provider.
During the procedure
During the procedure, we will use a small needle or a cannula to inject the filler into the targeted areas on your face. We may also use a topical numbing cream or local anesthesia to minimize any discomfort during the injections. The procedure typically takes around 30 minutes to an hour to complete, depending on the number of areas being treated.
After the procedure
After the procedure, you may experience some swelling, or bruising at the injection site. This is normal and should subside within a few days. But bring these changes to our attention. We also advise to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive sun
exposure for a day or two after the treatment. Sleep on your back, if possible for a few days. Avoid deep massages for atleast a month on the face.
What are the possible side effects?
Hyaluronic acid fillers are generally safe, but there are some possible side effects,
including:
- Swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site.
- Itching or tenderness
- Allergic reactions
- Infection
- Rarely, vascular occlusion which can cause tissue damage, so you need to see a qualified practitioner.
How long do the results last?
The results of hyaluronic acid fillers typically last 6-18 months, depending on the type of filler used and the individual patient. The results can be maintained with regular touch-up treatments.
Overall, hyaluronic acid fillers can be a safe and effective way to improve the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging on the face. However, it’s important to only receive treatments from a qualified and experienced healthcare provider.
