Hair Rejuvenation

Hair loss (alopecia) is a fairly common occurrence. While it’s more prevalent in older adults, anyone can experience it, including children.

It’s typical to lose between 50 and 100 hairs a day, according to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). With about 100,000 hairs on your head, that small loss isn’t noticeable. New hair normally replaces the lost hair, but this doesn’t always happen.

Hair loss can develop gradually over years or happen abruptly. Depending on the underlying cause, it may be temporary or permanent.

Trying to tell if you’re actually losing hair or just experiencing some normal shedding? Unsure if it’s time to see a doctor? Read on for more information about hair loss and how to manage it.

What causes hair loss?

There are a few main types of hair loss, each with different underlying causes.

Androgenic alopecia

Androgenic alopecia refers to hereditary hair loss, like male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness. It’s the most common cause of hair loss, affecting up to 50 percent of people.

Alopecia areata

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition that causes your immune system to attack hair follicles, resulting in bald patches that can range from small to large. In some cases, it might lead to total hair loss.

Telogen effluvium

Telogen effluvium is a type of sudden hair loss that results from emotional or physical shock, like a traumatic event, period of extreme stress, or a serious illness.

Traction alopecia

Traction alopecia results from too much pressure and tension on the hair, often from wearing it in tight styles, like braids, ponytails, or buns.

Other causes

Diseases that cause scarring, such as lichen planus and some types of lupus, can result in permanent hair loss due to the scarring.

Treatments

Neo Grafting

The majority of men and more than half of women experience hair loss as they age.

Several medical conditions can lead to hair loss, but the most common cause is androgenetic alopecia, more commonly known as male or female pattern hair loss.

Hair transplantations are surgeries that take hair follicles from one part of your scalp, usually from the back or sides, and implant them into balding areas.

The results of these surgeries have improved significantly since they were first performed in 1939.

The two most common techniques of hair transplantation are called follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit excision (FUE). Both have the potential to deliver natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing results.

NeoGraft is a semi-automated version of FUE and one of the most modern hair implantations techniques. It’s touted to be more effective than other FUE techniques by removing some human error associated with the surgery.

Micro Grafting

A micrograft hair transplant or follicular transplant is an aesthetic technique for repopulating the scalp with hair in areas where there is alopecia or intense hair loss. Using the patient’s own hair for a more natural result, it is performed under local anaesthesia. The main advantage of this treatment is that the patient is the donor and there is minimal scarring that is very easily concealed, even with very short hair.

Micrografting is very popular, especially among men who are balding or losing hair, women who experience intense hair loss, patients with alopecia, and patients who want to increase hair volume or cover sparsely populated areas in the beard, eyebrows, or genitals. Some patients who have undergone chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment also go for this treatment after suffering hair loss.

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is the science of delivering vitamins & nutrients in to the mesodermal layer of tissue under the skin. The two most important considerations are the technique used and the ingredients that are being delivered. For patients who are experiencing hair loss we most often suggest the use of Stem cells. Stem Cells have the ability to transform into almost any type of cell in the body. They are also self-generating, which means they can create identical copies of themselves that will divide into more specialized cells. The process of using stem cells to re-grow hair involves the following: in a lab, stem cells are engineered into hair follicle cells. These new cells are then injected into the scalp to replace the damaged cells, generating hair growth.

PRP Therapy

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy for hair loss is a three-step medical treatment in which a person’s blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into the scalp.

Some in the medical community think that PRP injections trigger natural hair growth and maintain it by increasing blood supply to the hair follicle and increasing the thickness of the hair shaft. Sometimes this approach is combined with other hair loss procedures or medications.

PRF Therapy

PRF hair loss treatments utilize the latest scientific advancements in cellular regeneration to repair hair follicles, reverse hair loss, and grow thicker hair. PRF therapy has been clinically proven to be effective in reversing both male and female pattern hair loss and baldness (androgenic alopecia). PRF can also treat thinning hair resulting from iron deficiency, metabolic causes, telogen effluvium and medication. PRF treatments can also restore hair growth of the beard or eyebrows in some patients.

During PRF hair loss treatment, the patient’s own blood is drawn just like a simple blood test. The blood is then centrifuged or “spun down” to separate out the PRF (“Platelet Rich Fibrin”). The concentrated PRF is then purified and re-injected back into the patient’s own scalp in the areas of hair loss. The stem cells, leukocytes and fibrin then stimulate then go to work repairing the dormant hair follicles on a cellular level. This 100% naturally triggers hair regrowth, and increases the strength and thickness of the new individual hair shafts being produced.
